Industry application overview
Ball and roller bearings used in aerospace must operate reliably in an environment that concerns life safety. Therefore, in aerospace applications, it is a complex process to select bearings that can provide the best performance. This requires a thorough understanding of bearing design, materials, lubricants, operating speed, temperature limits, manufacturing capacity and quality requirements.
SKL designs and produces bearings according to the application requirements specified by customers. Each SKL product is made of the best quality materials.
Typical customers in the industry
SAFRAN Group is a typical customer of SKL bearings in the aerospace industry. The steel used for bearing rings and rolling bodies of aerospace bearings is made by vacuum degassing or vacuum melting technology, so its cleanliness and homogeneity are very high. Before manufacturing bearing parts, all materials must pass metallurgical, chemical and mechanical inspection. The materials used for SKL aero-engine bearings are heat treated in a smelting furnace meeting precise standards under strict metallurgical control. The most advanced vacuum furnace must be used for heat treatment of high temperature and corrosion resistant steel commonly used in aero-engine bearings, with compressed nitrogen quenching and forced convection heating technology. These vacuum furnaces realize the most precise thermal cycle through the most sophisticated control capability.
SKL quality control personnel use the most sophisticated surface analyzer to determine the flatness and roughness of the bearing raceway. Electro-mechanical instruments are used to determine the hole position and other structural characteristics. Non-destructive assessment technology is used to determine the surface and subsurface defects of finished bearing components.
